The leader’s jerseys of La Vuelta 23, general, mountain, points and best junior, together with the four special jerseys dedicated to three of the most emblematic stages, that of Barcelona, ??Madrid and Angliru, have been presented at the Hipódromo de la Zarzuela Madrid by Santini Cycling Wear and Unipublic.
“Today we celebrate by presenting the jerseys that will be worn by the champions of the race in 2023,” said Monica Santini, CEO of Santini.
The director of the Vuelta, Javier Guillén, highlighted that “the jerseys are the hallmark of La Vuelta and not only represent the four classifications but also the cities, culture and emblematic mountains around the race.”
For his part, the sports councilor of the Barcelona City Council, David Escudé, assured that Barcelona “is ready to offer a spectacular start to La Vuelta on Saturday, August 26”.
“Today we take another step by discovering the design of this commemorative kit for the first stage and its fast-paced time trial that will cover the most emblematic points of our city.”
The official jerseys of the 78th edition are designed and manufactured entirely in Santini’s Italian facilities with its most technical fabrics. “La Roja” distinguishes the leader of the general classification, the green will be for the best of the points classification; the white jersey for the best junior; and the white jersey for the best climber.
In addition to the official jerseys, the Italian firm has created, for collectors, special jerseys for some stages of La Vuelta 23, intended for the most passionate fans of the Spanish round. These sets are made up of a jersey, shorts and a technical undershirt, as well as a cotton T-shirt with each of the designs.
The first set is dedicated to the opening stage of La Vuelta 23 in Barcelona: the team time trial that will put the cyclists to the test at the official start on August 26. The designed set has black, blue and purple tones with patterns that recall the vibrant personality of Barcelona. It also has a stopwatch, in reference to the inaugural time trial.
The climb to Altu de L’Angliru has become a legend in the recent history of La Vuelta and the entire cycling world. A 12 kilometer ascent, with ramps above 20%, which is considered one of the toughest in the world.
Dedicated to this climb and stage 17 of La Vuelta 23, this set presents various shades of green, recalling the forests that characterize the Principality of Asturias. It also has elements reminiscent of the ascension such as the Victoria Cross, emblem of the region.
The final finish line of La Vuelta 23 will be in Madrid. The jersey presents two representative elements of the city and, more specifically, of Puerta del Sol: the city’s coat of arms, with the bear and the strawberry tree, and the Kilometer Zero plaque, the starting point of the radial roads from Spain.
