José Manuel Entrecanales, president and CEO of Acciona, has today been awarded an honorary doctorate in Business Sciences by RMIT University in Melbourne (Australia). He is recognized for his contribution to sustainability and innovation in the clean energy and regenerative infrastructure sectors.

The president of ACCIONA received the recognition during RMIT University’s annual doctoral ceremony, held at Melbourne’s City Campus.

In granting the award, RMIT – Australia’s leading higher education institution – highlighted that, under the leadership of José Manuel Entrecanales, Acciona has focused its business activity on the development of “sustainable solutions for mitigation, adaptation and resilience to climate change, and for the decarbonization of the economy.”

Professor Mathews Nkhoma, Acting Vice-Chancellor of the School of Business and Law and Vice-President of RMIT, said during the ceremony that José Manuel Entrecanales’ commitment to change for the common good was an inspiration to the RMIT community, stating that “Entrecanales’ career is proof of the positive impact that can be generated when we collaborate with transparency and creativity to solve the challenges of our time.”

“His efforts to promote sustainability and innovation in the clean energy and regenerative infrastructure sectors, along with a deep commitment to social responsibility, make him a global model of positive civic impact,” he added.

In his speech during the doctoral ceremony, José Manuel Entrecanales encouraged future leaders to assume “the responsibility, as well as the opportunity, to build a better future through economic growth, social progress and positive environmental impact.”

“It is up to us to redefine the role of companies so that they stop being mere engines of economic wealth and become powerful catalysts for change,” he added. “Companies must be conceived as dynamic innovators, capable of developing solutions that go beyond the mere avoidance of negative impacts—environmental, economic and social.” The future success of corporations will depend on our ability to embrace and promote this regenerative collaboration.”
