If you lose your driving license, it has been damaged, it has been stolen or you have changed your information (change of name to the co-official language of your community or due to gender) you will have no choice but to request a duplicate.

A copy of your driving license can be requested as long as your license is valid. If you find yourself in this situation, keep the following details in mind to obtain the duplicate correctly.

The DGT highlights the importance of the permit being valid, since otherwise a renewal of the permit will have to be requested. Likewise, it is worth knowing that a duplicate driving license entails the issuance of a new document, but does not change the validity dates of the original license.

As the DGT points out on its website, at the time of completing the procedure for a duplicate of your permit, they will give you a provisional permit with which you will be able to circulate in our country until they give you the definitive one. In approximately a month and a half you will receive your permit at your home without having to carry out any other procedure.

If you request a duplicate due to damage, loss or theft, the cost of the procedure will be €20.81; while the duplicate due to data changes (name, sex or NIE to DNIE) is completely free.

Finally, once the duplicate has been requested and after verifying that everything is correct, within a few days they will send you the new documentation with the changes to the address you indicate at no additional cost.
