Honda continues with the electrification of its range of automobiles and has recently presented its 100% electric car model, after the urban Honda e. Now it is the turn of the e:Ny1, an SUV with compact dimensions, with a length of 4.39 meters, a size very similar to that of the HR-V, although in reality they use different platforms.
The new e:Ny1 is part of the Japanese brand’s ambitious plan, which has planned to launch 30 new 100% electric models around the world between now and 2030. This model is committed to a totally rational and sustainable philosophy, avoiding large sizes. and exorbitant powers.
Responding to a new identity intended for the firm’s electric cars, the design of this Honda is committed to simple, clean lines that provide freshness and modernity. We liked details such as the short front overhang, the large wheel arches and the generous track width, all together achieving a dynamic car look.
The new brand image highlights the “H” emblem included on the front and the white hubcaps and steering wheel. In addition, a new font for the word Honda on the tailgate gives it a more premium look.
Based on the e:N Architecture F platform, specific for electric cars, this Honda SUV has an electric motor that produces a maximum power of 204 HP, equivalent to 150 kW. Its acceleration capacity is quite notable, reaching 100 km/h from a standstill in 7.6 seconds. For its part, the maximum speed is self-limited to 160 km/h.
The e:Ny1 has a useful 62 kWh battery that, in the WLTP approved cycle, is capable of traveling up to 412 kilometers. In real conditions of use it is difficult to achieve 400 km of autonomy, a figure around 350 km being more realistic, derived from consumption that during our test was between 18 and 20 kWh/100 km.
In terms of battery recharging, the e:Ny1 supports charging powers of up to 11 kW in alternating current and 78 kW in direct current, taking 45 minutes to go from 10 to 80% of the available autonomy. In this case we need just 11 minutes to have 100 km of additional autonomy.
The vehicle has two charging cables as standard, mode 2 and mode 3 and the MyHonda app offers remote accessibility for management and programming, both charging and air conditioning.
Honda has worked conscientiously to offer a car that is fun to drive, without forgetting refinement and smoothness. These objectives are achieved in this model thanks to its low center of gravity, combined with the effectiveness of dynamic stability control.
To adapt the vehicle’s reactions to our needs or preferences, Honda offers three driving modes called Sport, Normal and Econ. In this way it is possible to find the desired balance between performance and efficiency.
Econ mode reduces the throttle response to prioritize economy, also adjusting other consumption. For its part, Sport mode is responsible for extracting all the mechanical potential of the vehicle, thus achieving the best acceleration capacity.
The e:Ny1 allows you to practice very safe driving thanks to Honda sensing technologies made up of a set of exterior cameras that provide protection in all directions. These cameras are also an excellent ally in urban driving, where the vehicle performs with excellent solvency thanks to its limited turning radius of 5.7 m.
More spacious than its compact appearance suggests, this Honda offers an interesting interior width, with very acceptable rear seats for three occupants to travel in. Of course, the distance between rows of seats is quite limited, not recommended for tall people.
The e:Ny1 has a trunk capacity of 346 liters, a correct volume, although it may be insufficient if the family intends to carry a lot of luggage. The tested Advance version offers electric opening of the gate, making loading and unloading operations as easy as possible.
Designed to be comfortable to use, without being stressful, the new center console has a simple layout of easy-access buttons. The dashboard has a clean, simple design, with a large 15.1-inch vertical touchscreen in the center that allows easy access to a complete set of infotainment and driving options.
Behind the wheel, the driver has a horizontal screen with high-quality graphics, where he can access all the information necessary to drive safely.
Very interesting is the rental offer – available for individuals and companies – that Honda has launched for this model, which can also benefit from the Moves III plan.
Honda Renting offers the possibility of enjoying the e:Ny1 in its Elegance version for 520 euros per month, without entry. Included in it are the use of the vehicle, maintenance, repairs, preferential after-sales service, insurance, MOT, roadside assistance, taxes and even appeals against fines.
