Men who seemed to be FBI agents were seen going around Thomas Matthew Crook’s neighborhood in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, a week after he shot at a rally, injuring former President Donald Trump and killing a bystander. The men were spotted knocking on doors and entering at least three homes, staying for about five minutes in each. They were seen carrying documents and had a box labeled “FBI ETHICS POCKET GUIDE” in their vehicle.
The FBI, leading the investigation into the attempted assassination, is still trying to determine the motive behind the shooting. The incident left Corey Comperatore, a former volunteer fire chief, dead and two other bystanders injured. Trump suffered an injury to his right ear during the attack before Crooks was taken out by a counter sniper at the campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13th.
Crooks, a 20-year-old described as a loner and an avid gamer with no clear political affiliations, has been the subject of over 200 interviews and the scrutiny of 14,000 images from his cell phone by the FBI. Prior to the shooting, Crooks had searched for information on Trump, President Joe Biden, and future campaign events. Additionally, he had looked up Ethan Crumbley, the teenage shooter responsible for the Oxford High School massacre in Michigan in 2021, who is now serving life in prison without parole.
Amidst the fallout from the assassination attempt, U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle is set to testify before the House Oversight Committee despite calls for her resignation. Cheatle has stated that she has no intention to resign. The investigation into the shooting continues as authorities work to uncover the motives and circumstances surrounding the event.
