The latest data published, corresponding to 2020, indicate that the gross family income available in Maresme is 300 euros more than the Catalan one and stands at 17,900 euros per inhabitant on average. This figure represents a decrease of 500 euros compared to 2019. It must be taken into account that the data refer to the year of the outbreak of Covid-19 and its negative effects on the economy are shown in all counties, with the exception of Pla d ‘Urgell, which registers an increase of 1.33% over the previous year, and Ribera d’Ebre and Pla de l’Estany, which maintain results.

The analysis carried out by the Local Development Observatory of the Regional Council based on the data published by IDESCAT indicates that the decline experienced by the Maresme is lower than that recorded in Catalonia as a whole. In percentage terms, the income per capita in the Maresme decreased by 2.72% compared to the 3.30% registered in Catalonia. The 2020 data once again place the region as the fifth with the highest income. It is surpassed by Barcelonès, Baix Llobregat, Vallès Occidental and Garraf.

In relation to 2019, the income per capita has decreased in practically all the municipalities of the region except in Santa Susanna, Premià de Dalt and Vilassar de Dalt where it has increased by 41.72%, 16.06% and 2.78% respectively, and in Sant Andreu de Llavaneres where it has remained the same. Arenys de Mar experienced the biggest decrease (-15.05%).

On the other hand, Alella and Cabrils once again lead the ranking of Maresme towns with the highest per capita income and, in fact, remain among the five Catalan towns with the highest per inhabitant income.

In Alella, the data indicate that the income per capita is 26,400 euros and in Cabrils 25,700 euros. They are followed by Premià de Dalt (25,300 euros), Cabrera de Mar (24,200 euros), Tiana (23,700 euros), Teià (23,600 euros), Santa Susanna (23,100 euros), Vilassar de Dalt (22,200 euros) and Sant Andreu de Llavaneres (21,900 euros).

However, the Maresme is a region of contrasts registering a differential of 12,400 euros between the two locations with extreme values (Alella – Pineda de Mar). Pineda de Mar is the Maresme municipality with the lowest per capita income (€14,000/inhabitant). At the bottom are Calella (14,200 euros), Tordera (14,300 euros) and Malgrat de Mar (14,900 euros).
