The website of the ‘Grand Départ Pays Basque 2023’ of the Tour de France has published the practical guide of the event, with the aim that citizens can consult in a single document all the information that allows them to organize their day to day in the framework of the celebration of the departure of the cycling event from Euskadi.

As explained by the Basque Government and the municipalities of Vitoria-Gasteiz and Bilbao, cities from which the two stages of the Tour will depart, it is “a living guide” that will be updated as new information regarding the career.

In this way, in a unified format, citizens have at their disposal all the information that affects the dates of the ‘Grand Départ’. Links to the platforms of all the public transport operators, program of the main events, maps and route meters of each stage, caravan parks, details of the departures and the goals of the stages, the major conditions with information on the closing and opening of route and scheduled events, among other issues.

The guide offers a comprehensive and practical vision of how the Tour de France will affect mobility and the options available. Beyond all the information collected, it is recommended to “plan trips well in advance and use public transport”, especially rail.

In the case of having to take the car, it is advisable to download the Waze application, which allows you to know the state of traffic in real time. In this application, the traffic conditions already programmed and the dissuasive parking spaces that are enabled for those days are being progressively loaded.

This application, aimed at private vehicles, allows you to upload a trip and, based on the scheduled conditions, suggest the time of departure and the route.

The organization of the Tour de France has explained that, from the passage of the advertising caravan to the transit of the last vehicle in the race, the route will be closed to traffic.

Likewise, the guide offers a series of tips, to enjoy this spectacular parade of animations and cyclists, such as “protecting minors, not risking taking a photo, not running with the cyclists, respecting their effort, not lighting flares at their passage on the road, keep pets on a leash at all times and do not trespass on the road.
