Democrates has been able to make profitable at the polls the work of the last twelve years in the Government, and especially the four of the last legislature, and has once again established itself as the party called to take the reins of the Executive. Xavier Espot, the current Cap de Govern, will be able to repeat his position and will do so in a particularly important period for the future of the country, with the commitment on the horizon of the negotiation with the EU and with the challenges of innovation, economic expansion and modernity cemented in the country in the last legislature.
Xavier Espot’s party will govern without the pressure of the formation that claimed to be the winner of the elections and its main threat, the left-wing coalition of the PS-SDP. The fiasco of the Social Democratic option, which ended the elections as a third force, has been the most relevant aspect of the electoral contest, after the coup on the table by Demòcrates, consolidated with his victory in all the parishes of the country except in Sant Julià de loria. Instead, the unexpected surprise has been the second electoral position of Concòrdia, the party led by Cerni Escalé, after a display of confidence and ambition.
Concòrdia, which showed special strength in the parish of Sant Julià de Lòria, intends to carry out a policy of proximity with the citizen. According to Escalé, “we are very happy to put the country’s growth model at the center of the political debate”, adding that “the tools that citizens have given us are a precious gift that we will not miss out on”.
The bitterest face of the electoral contest was experienced in the Social Democratic fiefdom, since its ambitions ended in third place, with only three representatives, and also without victories in any parish in the country. The failed result of PS-SDP has already caused the first consequences: the resignation of the leader of the PS, Pere López, to occupy his seat. López already admitted after the result was known, and before he made the decision to resign from his position as director, that the results were going to provoke a process of analysis and reflection. “We will do the analyzes that are necessary, although it is not a decision to be made on the spur of the moment or that I should make alone. We will talk in the next few days and with the entire party, â€he predicted before he announced his decision last Wednesday. Among the reasons considered for having obtained a worse result than expected, the strength with which Concòrdia has broken into the Andorran political scene stands out. “We have shared a speech with Concòrdia and also with Andorra Endavant on some key issues, such as housing or foreign investment, and that has caused us to share the votes,” Pere López said at the time.
On the other hand, the final turnout for the elections was 66.95 percent of the electoral roll, which is equivalent to 20,057 voters out of the almost 30,000 called to the polls casting their vote. This meant that the level of participation was reduced by 1.37 percent compared to the 2019 elections.
