In recent years the world has evolved very rapidly. New technologies have made their way into our day to day, also reaching the world of cycling.
The appearance of cyclocomputers with thousands of live data, electronic changes, measuring devices and potentiometers, heart rate monitors or smart trainers with their respective applications have revolutionized this sport. Virtual realities have even been created to be able to train without leaving our room.
More and more advances are incorporated into our sector. In particular, indoor cycling is going from being something monotonous and boring to looking like a video game that encourages you to get on the torture rack and be able to play your favorite game for a few hours.
This type of platform, in particular Zwift, generates a virtual reality space where we can pedal through various “worlds” such as France, Paris, London, Watopia, New York… They combine real roads with fantasy sections. For example, we can climb the recreation of Alpe du Zwift (Alpe du Huez) or pedal through the mythical streets of London and inside its subway.
Within the virtual game we can choose several routes with a variety of terrains, exchange points acquired by doing challenges and kilometers for our favorite bicycle or equipment, carry out races or events with friends, burst segments and crown ourselves with the mountain or sprint jersey… In Summary, thanks to these platforms our roller training is much more enjoyable.
Zwift, with the intention of continuing to improve this experience and make the game even more fun, has introduced “Zwift Play”, some additional controls to add to our bike.
The buttons allow riders to make selections from the menus, but when running they are for interaction, with shortcuts for Ride On’s, deploying PowerUps, skipping training blocks or teleporting to Pacer Groups.
The controls will be released together with a new game mode in which you will have control of your character and will put us to the test on winding routes where we will find obstacles and bonuses. Something similar to the new Mario Kart of cycling.
All these innovations, and those that are yet to come, are very positive for the growth of sports activity, specifically cycling, since it generates extra motivation for training
