The new generation of the BMW X1 completes its range of engines. The evolution of its third installment is outstanding in all sections and one of its great attractions is the availability of electrified versions. The BMW iX1 xDrive30 is the fully electric option and the new plug-in hybrid variants face greater challenges thanks to the increase in their electric range.
The new BMW iX1 xDrive30 is the first all-wheel drive electric car developed by the brand for the premium compact segment. It has two electric motors integrated into the front and rear axles, capable of offering a combined power of 230 kW (313 hp), combined with 494 Nm of torque. The maximum speed is self-limited to 180 km/h and the mechanical performance is high, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.
This model adopts the fifth generation of BMW eDrive technology, with high-efficiency charging thanks to improved software and a flat-shaped high-voltage battery that is installed in the underbody of the vehicle. This battery has a net capacity of 64.7 kWh, the WLTP electric autonomy of the new BMW iX1 can reach up to 440 km and the approved consumption ranges between 16.8 and 18.1 kWh/100 km.
At a fast charging station, the Bavarian electric SUV can recover from 10 to 80% battery capacity in 29 minutes. At a charging speed of 11 kW, it takes about 6.5 hours to enjoy 100% of its charge.
The X1 is available in two attractive plug-in hybrid versions. The BMW X1 xDrive25e has a combined power of 245 HP and can travel up to 92 km in 100% electric mode. The mechanical combination is made up of a 136 hp three-cylinder gasoline engine and an 80 kW gasoline engine. The first is located on the front axle, while the second acts on the rear.
This model is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds and its top speed is self-limited to 190 km/h (140 km/h in EV mode). Its WLTP-approved consumption is 0.7 l/100 km and electricity consumption starts at 14.6 kWh/100 km.
In the case of the BMW X1 xDrive30e, the power amounts to 326 hp and the EV autonomy can reach up to 88 km. The gasoline engine, also with three cylinders, yields 150 hp and is combined with a 130 kWh electric motor, equivalent to 177 hp.
This version responds to drivers who want higher performance, being capable of reaching 100 km/h from a standstill in 5.6 seconds. The maximum speed amounts to 205 km/h and, in electric mode, it can travel at speeds of up to 140 km/h. The approved consumption is 0.7 l/100 km and the electricity consumption in the WLTP combined cycle, from 14.7 kWh/100 km.
The first contact with these versions of the new X1 confirms that BMW keeps the sporting DNA of its cars intact. Both the electric model and the plug-in hybrid versions offer remarkable dynamic qualities and a strong component of driving fun.
