An Arkansan has recently fallen ill with salmonella, which has been linked to a recall of cucumbers. Despite this case, Arkansas has not been identified as one of the 14 states affected by the recall. The outbreak has now spread to a total of 25 states and the District of Columbia.
According to U.S. health officials, the cucumbers in question were sold in bulk by Fresh Start Produce Sales Inc. to various retail distribution centers, wholesalers, and food service distributors in the 14 states. However, there is a possibility that these sellers may have distributed the cucumbers to additional states or repackaged them for sale in stores.
The affected cucumbers are described as dark green, approximately 1.5 – 2.0 inches in diameter, and 5-9 inches long. It is important to note that mini cucumbers and English cucumbers are not included in this recall.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported a total of 162 cases of salmonella linked to this recall across the country. Out of these cases, 54 individuals have required hospitalization for treatment.
