Elon Musk plans to create a super app that combines services such as social networks, messaging, games and payments, like China’s WeChat or Indonesia’s Gojek. “In the West there is no app similar to these… but this may change soon,” says Pablo Foncillas, a business school professor.
The rise of this type of platform is explained by the convenience given to users by having several different applications in one place, where they can book dinner at a restaurant, chat with friends or make online payments. However, “there is a dark side,” she warns.
