The magic of the explosion of color of the peach trees in bloom in Aitona, in the Segrià region, has already begun, as can be seen in these photographs in La Vanguardia’s Readers’ Photos.
The main economic activity of Aitona is agriculture, where the cultivation of fruit trees stands out. Since 1989 it has had an agricultural cooperative. In spring, the great attraction is to walk among the fields of fruit trees and observe the impressive palette of colors that they draw on the landscape. But, this year the show has been brought forward to the end of winter.
The flowering of fruit trees (peach, apricot, paraguayan, nectarine, etc.) turns these lands into a point of tourist attraction. There are even routes to do on foot and by bicycle to feel the wonderful sensation of walking among the trees and flowers full of color. You can go on your own or with a guided tour.
Furthermore, as a backdrop, we can see the snow-covered Pyrenees, making a brutal contrast of colors with the flowering fields of Aitona.
And to surprise, I have also been able to capture a beautiful solar halo surrounding the peach trees. Beautiful postcard that is never forgotten.
The solar halo forms around the sun, presenting an iridescent ring on its outer circumference, due to ice crystals when there are high clouds. The halo is caused by ice particles suspended in the troposphere that refract light, generating a spectrum of colors around the Moon or Sun.
It is an optical effect in the shape of a disk around the sun – or the moon – and has an iridescent ring on its outer circumference.
