Woman walking on sidewalk in critical condition after being hit by car, cops say

A woman walking on a sidewalk in a Sanford neighborhood is in critical condition after being hit by a car Friday, according to police.

The woman, who hasn’t been identified, was walking down Live Oak Boulevard sometime after 5 p.m. when a vehicle left the road and hit her, Sanford Police spokeswoman Bianca Gillett said.

The woman was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, Gillett said.

It’s unknown why the driver, who hasn’t been identified, veered off the road.

Authorities have closed Live Oak Dinamobet Boulevard in both directions from Hidden Lake Drive to Red Cedar Drive as they investigate.

No other details have been provided.

As SunRail officials struggle with uncertainties over when to apply for an essential and already delayed federal grant or when the southern expansion into Osceola County will be complete, one matter is abundantly clear but not talked about much: the cost of collecting fares from riders – arising from ticketing machines, armored cars, staff and other expenses – is greater than the revenue brought in by fares.
