The neo-Romanesque hermitage of Our Lady of the Flors de Maig, in Torrefeta, in the Segarra region, is a protected monument and listed in the Catalan Architectural Heritage. In The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia, we ask ourselves: Why is it dedicated to flowers?

Well, it turns out that the old road from Guissona to Florejacs, converted into a wide and well-maintained track, is a very pleasant route and frequented by the people of Guissona.

This path leads to the hermitage and, during the months of May or June, the walk allows you to enjoy an abundant and varied flowering, which stands out surprisingly among the most typical dryland landscape of La Segarra. Therefore, the name of the hermitage is very appropriate.

This small hermitage rises in the high llanos of Nials, in the south of Guissona, bordering its municipal boundary. On the other side of this road passes the track from Guissona to Torrefeta, where there is also a cross at the end, about 70 meters further south. Towards the east stands out the silhouette of the Torre d’en Carlos, already in the terminus of Guissona.

If we look at the hermitage, a belfry bell tower with a single opening crowns the façade, decorated with blind arches and Lombard bands.
