In Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we can see this photograph that I took in 1987, when the top of Turó de la Rovira was still an unknown place even for the residents of the neighborhood.

This space is now topical due to the problems of mass tourism and the demands of the residents of the area.

But its history begins 2,500 years ago, with a settlement of Laietan Iberians and continues with the estate “el castillo” of the military man Norberto Peñasco (comrade of General Prim) in the 19th century, with the anti-aircraft batteries during the Civil War and with a nucleus shanty town in the Franco era.

Now this space, previously rejected by the city, is invaded by tourism. This year, in addition, the centenary of the Can Baró neighborhood will be celebrated.

The Carmel bunkers are today a viewpoint from which you can see the entire city of Barcelona (360º views). It is located at the top of Turó de la Rovira, at an altitude of 262 metres.

Barcelona City Council promoted this space with the aim of reducing the saturation of traditional tourist spots (for example, the nearby Park Güell). But, now, the problem is the large number of visitors who visit the Carmel bunkers daily and the parties that are held there.
