In The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia we can see the first cherries of the season in Ullastrell, in the Vallès Occidental.
The cherries ripen from late spring to early summer, although their harvest period is quite short, so you have to be very careful.
The cherry must be taken care of. It is the only stone fruit that, if harvested before its time, does not mature outside the tree. Therefore, it is quite an art to know when to harvest them at the right time.
The benefits provided by this exquisite fruit are multiple, such as for arthritis and rheumatism due to its anti-inflammatory power; obesity, due to its satiating effect purifying the organism and protecting the nervous and vascular system; intestinal disorders, since it improves constipation… And so we could continue, but better wait to be able to savor them.
The cherry is the fruit of the cherry tree. It is believed that it originates from Asia Minor and that its cultivation comes from the ancient Greek colony of Kerasos, present-day Giresun, on the Black Sea coast.
The cherry was highly appreciated for centuries by the ancient Greeks and Romans. The latter were the ones who introduced its cultivation in Spain.
