Curious challenge that Viladecans faces this weekend. The town of Baix Llobregat, which is positioned as the cherry city, intends to hold “the largest tomato tasting in the world”, the City Council explained in a statement.

It will be this Saturday from 1:30 p.m. in the Cúbic building, during the celebration of the first Festa del Tomàquet de Viladecans. The event aims to reach “more than 300 people tasting the main tomatoes at the same time”, which will be the Viladecans cherry and the tip-top pink.

On the other hand, the day will also serve to “learn about the origin, cultivation and culinary versatility of the tomato.” The party will feature the participation of chefs Ada Parellada and Vicent Guimerà and the CETT, a university center on tourism.

There will also be cooking workshops and a space to try gazpacho. In addition, the documentary Tomatoes Listen to Wagner, by Greek director Marianna Economou, will be screened. For the little ones, there will be a children’s cooking workshop, a play space and craft workshops.

The Viladecans cherry is grown in this city, which has land in the Baix Llobregat Agricultural Park. The pink tip-top tomato is also produced in Viladecans, specifically in the fields of Ametller Origen.
