I captured this photograph from L’Escala for Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia with this perspective of the silhouette of Canigó, a mountain that houses between its sites the monasteries of Sant Martí del Canigó and Sant Miquiel de Cuixà, of great architectural value .

At 2,784 meters above sea level, Canigó was considered the highest mountain in the Pyrenees due to the abrupt difference in level that separates it from the Roselló plain, a prominence that makes it more impressive than other more enclosed mountains located between higher valleys.

L’Escala is one of the most popular destinations in summer, as it has a large number of coves and beaches, but in autumn it also invites you to enjoy the light of its Mediterranean landscape by walking along the promenade and the coastal path.

The name L’Escala comes from Roman times, Scala, which means dock or place where ships dock. Today we can enjoy the port.

Autumn is a good season to stroll through the old town, without so many crowds. Narrow streets abound, most of which lead to the beach. You can see the Alfolí de la Sal building, the Plaza Mayor, where the church is, and the old salt cemetery.
