The Provincial Firefighters Consortium of Valencia has defended the diligence in the development of the intervention by the members of the municipal fire department of the city of Valencia during the fire in the Campanar building that cost the lives of ten people.
The Consortium incorporated a hundred personnel to collaborate with the municipal firefighters in what they have described as “the largest structural fire in the history of the Valencian Community”, who were integrated both in the operation of the direct intervention units and in the Advanced Command Post (PMA).
In a statement, he assured that the decisions taken “were evaluated and agreed upon under technical criteria from the Advanced Command Post at all times.”
Likewise, he has indicated that the procedural patterns were adjusted to the emergency situation and “safety standards were applied, both for the inhabitants of the building and for the intervention personnel, which at specific times, had to be relegated to the background.” their own physical integrity in the face of assistance and defense requirements”.
He highlighted that the decisions taken by the first crews of the Valencia Municipal Fire Department that arrived at the scene were “critical and urgent, conditioned by both the number of occupants and the virulent development of the fire.”
In such situations, the Consortium added, “the strict application of approved and trained action procedures is the way to minimize the tragic consequences that can occur in this type of actions.”
“Unfortunately, sometimes, it is not enough, and despite the effort and risk assumed by the intervention personnel, the results are not as expected,” he lamented.
From the Consortium, they recognize and note “the professionalism demonstrated by the firefighters of the city of Valencia, as well as that of their responsible commanders, with whom at all times we share the physical and emotional hardship of managing this fire.” .
They have also offered all their solidarity with the families of the fatal victims, and with the injured, neighbors and those affected by this terrible, unprecedented fire.
