The United States has approved plans for multi-day attacks against multiple targets in Iraq and Syria, which highlight the presence of Iranian personnel and facilities, CBS News reported, citing official sources.

President Joe Biden explained Tuesday that he was working on how to respond to the drone attack on a US facility in northern Jordan, along the Syrian border, that killed three soldiers and injured 40 others. The United States blamed a drone operated by militants with the support of Iran for the attack.

A day earlier, Secretary of State Antony Blinken had stated that the US military response would be “at various levels, in stages and sustained over time.” In its information, CBS does not give details of what American approval entails or the timing of the attacks.

The drone attack in Jordan was the first against US forces in the area with deadly results since the Gaza war began. The action marked an escalation in tensions in the Middle East.
