The 2024 U.S. Open kicked off with 156 golfers vying for the prestigious championship and a substantial first-place prize in Pinehurst, North Carolina. However, after the second round at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club’s Course No. 2, less than half of the initial field remains in contention.
Among the cuts made following the second round were six former U.S. Open champions, including the legendary Tiger Woods, who finished 7-over. The leaderboard saw Ludvig Åberg take the top spot at 5-under after shooting a 1-under 69 in the second round. Patrick Cantlay, Bryson DeChambeau, and Thomas Detry are tied for second at 4-under, while Rory McIlroy is tied for fifth at 3-under.
Hideki Matsuyama made a significant jump to eighth place after shooting a round-best 4-under 66. Reigning champion Wyndham Clark, on the other hand, is far behind the leaders at 4-over.
The cut line for this year’s U.S. Open was set at 5-over, allowing a total of 74 golfers to make the cut and advance to the final two rounds. Notable players who missed the cut include Max Homa, Viktor Hovland, Justin Rose, Webb Simpson, Dustin Johnson, Gary Woodland, and Lucas Glover.
As the tournament progresses, golf fans can keep an eye on the leaderboard to see who will emerge as the ultimate victor of the 2024 U.S. Open. The competition promises to be intense as the remaining players battle it out for the championship title and the coveted first-place prize.
