A fire in the La Cometa industrial estate in El Vendrell (Tarragona) has left two people seriously injured and two buildings burned. A third building has suffered partial damage from the flames, while a mosque located nearby has escaped the fire thanks to the action of firefighters.

The fire started this Thursday around 6:30 p.m. at number 9 Carboners Street. Up to 16 crews from the Generalitat Firefighters moved to the area to extinguish the flames, but it was impossible for the ship number 7 to also burn.

The two injured people were rushed to the Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona with serious burns, according to the Medical Emergency System.

To prevent the flames from spreading to other buildings or to the neighboring mosque, firefighters were carrying out defensive strategy work, cooling its facades. In addition, the nearby population was asked to confine themselves and the high-speed trains that circulated near the polygon reduced their speed.

The fire was considered under control at 10:45 p.m., as reported by firefighters on their social networks.
