The Observatory against LGTBI-phobia and the Trans Platform have publicly denounced an attack by 12 young people on a trans boy last Saturday in the Sants neighborhood of Barcelona.
As the victim explained online, the boys started laughing at him behind his back and asking him if he was a boy or a girl. When he confronted them and told them that he was a boy, they began to insult him, calling him a “fucking lesbian” and that he was “disgusting.” Furthermore, the young men asked him to show them his penis, all shouting in unison: “Let him show it, let him show it.”
They then threw things at him, spat at him and punched him in the face and head. The young man claims that he tried to defend himself, without success, and decided to take refuge in a store for 24 hours.
The Observatory against LGTBI-phobia has condemned this new attack, which joins two others that have taken place in recent weeks against trans people in different neighborhoods of Barcelona. One of them occurred on March 28 in Trinitat Vella when a trans woman and a non-binary person were attacked by a large group of teenagers. The other attack occurred on March 24, where a group of young people were also involved, who allegedly attacked a trans woman in the Poble-sec neighborhood.
“These episodes of transphobia must be stopped immediately and public authorities must be urged to put a stop to impunity and activate preventive actions and support for the victims,” ??the organization has stressed on X (formerly Twitter).
From the Observatory they assure that they are working on “care for the victims” and have called a rally in Barcelona, ??together with the Trans Platform, to condemn transphobia. The demonstration will take place on April 18 at 6:00 p.m. in the Parlament superilla with Comte Borrell.
