An American man tragically lost his life due to an electrocution incident in a jacuzzi at a resort in Mexico. The 43-year-old man, identified as Jorge N, was in the jacuzzi with a woman named Lizeth N, who sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to the US for medical treatment.
The incident took place at a private condominium complex in Puerto Peñasco, Sonora. Officials believe that the man’s death and the woman’s injuries were caused by an electric discharge while they were in the jacuzzi. The general prosecutor’s office of justice for the state of Sonora is currently investigating the matter to determine the exact cause of the shock.
A video of the incident captured onlookers panicking as they tried to help the victims. The footage shows someone performing chest compressions on a person lying on the ground near the jacuzzi. The tragic event has deeply affected the friends and loved ones of Jorge, who have set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for his repatriation and the woman’s medical expenses.
Electrocution incidents in swimming pools and spas are not uncommon, with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission reporting 33 fatalities since 2002. In case of an electrical shock in the water, it is crucial to turn off all power and call 911 immediately. The American Red Cross recommends using a fiberglass Shepherd’s crook/rescue hook to safely remove the victim from the water.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of pool and spa safety measures to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the victims during this difficult time.
