A 31-year-old man croaked while running the Brooklyn Half Marathon on Saturday morning, according to race officials. The dude managed to get about eight miles into the course in Brooklyn when he had a “medical incident” along Ocean Parkway. “We’re sad to say that one of the runners today passed away,” said Rob Simmelkjaer, the big boss at New York Road Runners. “Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and all the people who knew him.”

They said they did CPR on the guy before taking him to Maimonides Medical Center. Not much is known about the runner, except that this was his first time running with NYRR. Three years back, a 30-year-old named David Reichman died in the same race. He had just finished at the Coney Island boardwalk when he had a heart attack.

Around 28,000 runners were out on the half marathon course that Saturday. It’s a real tragedy that this happened during what was supposed to be a fun event. Not really sure why this matters, but it’s important to remember the risks involved in these kinds of activities. Hopefully, everyone stays safe out there.
