On my occasional walk through Palamós, in the Baix Empordà, I have captured the image of two cruise ships in the port and, in the foreground, this old cannon that seems to be aiming at them, in defense of the city. This is how we can see it in the Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia.

As the summer months approach, the activity and presence of cruise passengers in this port on the Costa Brava grows. But now it’s a peaceful “invasion”, not the pirates of 480 years ago.

The port of Palamós has nine quays with a total of 1,549 linear metres. It has about 60 fishing booths and more than 60 fishing boats that go out to fish. For its part, the sports dock has 788 moorings for lengths from 6 to 20 meters.

The bay of Palamós is protected from the waves by the large breakwater to the east of the port, which is why it is considered ideal for practicing sailing nautical sports. On the right, it communicates with that of Es Monestir, already in the municipality of Sant Antoni de Calonge.

Palamós is a town on the Costa Brava popular for its maritime landscapes, its beaches, the commercial port and, for gastronomy lovers, for the famous Palamós prawns.
