Junts per Catalunya has once again demanded this Monday that President Pere Aragonès appear in Parliament to report on the reform of the Penal Code and the agreements reached at the dialogue table with the central government. “We ask Aragonès to give an account of the negotiation at the dialogue table,” Josep Rius, spokesman and vice-president of the formation, pointed out at a press conference, recalling that the head of the Catalan Executive “promised in November to give explanations before the end of the year” and said they would be “transparent. “From Junts we ask for transparency and accountability,” he insisted.
The post-convergent formation already demanded explanations from the president in mid-November for the pacts with Moncloa in the area of ??the so-called “dejudicialization”, and from the Government they assured that same day that they would be given through their spokesperson. However, a month later, the formation formally registered the request, noting that no step was taken in that regard.
For now, the head of the Catalan Executive, who has the power to appear at his own will, has refused to appear. In fact, in the last control session, the president of the Junts parliamentary group, Albert Batet, again demanded that Aragonès give explanations in the chamber and reminded him of his commitment, but he received no response and Aragonès, who dodged the matter, left. He referred to his answers on the reform of the Penal Code in the control sessions with the Government.
For the petition of the post-convergents to prosper, it is necessary for the petition to have the support of the majority of groups in the spokespersons’ meeting, the Chamber’s management body in which they agree on which issues go to the plenary session. A few weeks ago, Junts tried to get his application to go ahead, but did not have enough support.
Thursday, when the petitions of the Prosecutor’s Office were heard before the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) for the leaders of Esquerra Josep Maria Jové and Josep Lluís Salvadó in the case for the organization of 1-O, it was not a day for the reproaches. But after that first moment, Rius has indicated that in view of the “actions of the Supreme Court”, of magistrate Manuel Marchena and of the Prosecutor’s Office, “it is shown that the reform does not serve to stop the repression or to remove the judicial system.” “It was only necessary to repeal sedition, let us warn you and time, unfortunately, has proved us right,” added the spokesman, who has justified in this way why Junts did not support the reform that the PSOE and Esquerra agreed to.
Likewise, the leader of JxCat has censured that from the Government, through the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, the judicial offensive is “applauded”. “In the PSOE, between dialogue or repression, they choose the latter,” he has sentenced.
Regarding the trial of the president of Junts, Laura Borràs, the spokesperson has avoided taking a position on the statements of another of the defendants in that case in today’s session, in which he acknowledges the alleged irregularities that are being judged. “We ask for respect for the presumption of innocence and that the trial take place as normally as possible,” Rius limited himself to saying, adding that for JxCat “it is a clear case of political persecution.”
