The National Police has dismantled three marijuana plantations in houses in Empuriabrava, Blanes and Maçanet de la Selva. The agents seized 900 plants and arrested three people, who have already been released.
The first two investigations were initiated thanks to citizen collaboration. The neighbors of a chalet in Empuriabrava and a house in Maçanet de Selva began to suspect that there could be marijuana in both homes due to the strong smell they gave off. They also denounced the danger of overloading the power lines and the risk of fire.
The agents located in the Empuriabrava cultivation, which was located in the garage of the chalet, behind an armored door, a total of 351 plants and four kilos of buds. In Maçanet’s house they found 296 more plants. The electricity company quantified that the amount defrauded amounted to more than 43,000 euros.
The National Police arrested the person responsible for this last plantation, a man who was in an irregular situation in Spain, and who had already been arrested for the same reason only three months ago.
In an illegally occupied farmhouse in Blanes, the agents detected another crop with another 250 plants and intercepted a compressed air rifle with its lead ammunition and 60 unused cartridges. The high consumption of electrical energy that overloaded the network alerted the police. It is estimated that the amount defrauded in this last plantation amounts to 10,000 euros.
