La Font del Gat, located within the Laribal gardens, on Montjuïc mountain, will once again have a restaurant. It will open this summer and will continue to be called Font del Gat, as it was once called, since the owners of La Confitería, a group to which the Barcelona City Council has just awarded the management of this historic establishment, want to keep the essence of this place intact. emblematic space.

“We have not even started the works,” Lito Baldovinos, co-owner with Enric Rebordosa of the La Confitería Group, assures La Vanguardia, who with this new project already has the recovery of 6 unique premises in Barcelona (Muy Buenas, Cèntric, Bar Betlem, La Confitería, Café del Center and La font del Gat).

According to the businessman, the interior of the new space, which is located inside a modernist house designed shortly before the 1929 Universal Exhibition by the architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch, is still a blank canvas for them. “We don’t know in detail what the design will be like. What we do know is that the interior design will have an old, modernist style, simulating a house from the period.” That, and Catalan tapas with some signature touches will be served.

The truly strong thing in the new Font del Gat will be the programming. “We want it to be a place that is culturally important. We have chosen it to have a good time, and so that there is fresh cinema, concerts, rumba, piano…”, explains Baldovinos.

The rehabilitation of the Font del Gat was an idea that the La Confitería group, also the creator of what was in 2022 the best cocktail bar in the world, Paradiso, had in mind for years. “There were three of us behind this unique space. We were attentive and when the tender came out we found out.”

Their idea is to be able to open to the public next June, although everything will depend on the works and permits. And be careful, because although some media have explained that the new Font del Gat will only work in summer; It is not like this. “Evidently in that season there will be more content because the terrace will provide much more, but in winter we will also open even if only on weekends,” concludes Baldovinos.
