The SL has always been a Mercedes-Benz icon, a symbol of status and elegance, a true dream car since it was launched 70 years ago. The SL designation comes from the German Sport Leicht (light sports car) and since 1954, technology and performance have determined each of the generations of this prestigious family.
The latest version of the star brand’s legendary roadster, the new SL 63 SE Performance, is not only the most powerful member of this long-standing saga, but also the most innovative, offering a unique concept that combines superior performance with the option of fully electric driving in an environment of luxury and exclusivity topped by high-quality materials and extensive equipment possibilities.
Its 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine and the AMG electric drive unit together produce a power of 600 kW (816 hp) and a maximum torque of up to 1,420 Nm. The immediate response of the electric drive and the consistent, linear power delivery of the thermal drive provide an impressive driving experience. An acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and a maximum speed of 317 km/h underline its devastating force.
Systems such as the AMG Active Ride Control suspension with active roll stabilization, 4MATIC all-wheel drive, active rear axle steering and the standard high-performance ceramic braking system ensure a broad balance between comfort, safety and driving dynamics. .
Furthermore, the basic operating strategy of this plug-in hybrid, with a combustion engine at the front and an electric motor at the rear, is derived from the hybrid drive of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 car.
As in the premier class of motorsport, maximum propulsion is always available when the driver needs it, for example to accelerate hard out of corners or when overtaking. The electric power can be used frequently thanks to its high recovery capacity and recharging according to four selectable levels.
Additionally, the vehicle has eight driving programs: AMG Dynamic Select: Electric, Battery Hold, Comfort, Smoothness, Sport, Sport, Race and Individual.
