Three years ago the management of Park Güell in Barcelona approved to streamline its management a bit and open the park to residents for free. Since then, the long-suffering residents of the area, who have a daily rave in the bunkers and in almost all the avenues and streets of Carmel, an eternal procession (almost always in an Asian key) invading the streets and minibuses of Vallcarca and El Coll and an unacceptable mess in too many corners of those neighborhoods, as well as in previously quiet squares in La Salut and Baix Guinardó, they can theoretically enter the venue at any time (if it’s open, of course) and without needing to book tickets in advance.

They can, therefore, be happy with their card, personal and non-transferable, which replaces options that, in that already mythical before the pandemic, were worth hesitating and convincing the poor guards at those doors harassed with “what do I have?” to pay? But I am a lifelong neighbor!” Or the excuses (or not) of “I come to walk the dog” (you have to go with a dog, of course) or “I go jogging” (you have to run in and if possible with the appropriate clothing and shoes) that worked for neighbors and did not neighbors and today I fear they are banned.

For non-residents, the alternative to the card, the dog or running shoes is to become a member of Gaudir Més, which allows access to various attractions in the city, as well as advantages including bidding for those extremely difficult free tickets to return to the long-awaited Park Güell.

Fed up of not being able to enjoy the green lung. Sick of being ignored. Fed up with so many tourists just for them, like that card that never arrives (it is only processed by phone or on the web) and fed up with chasing the dubious advantages of the Gaudir Més, the residents are organizing themselves. At least in Vallcarca. Graffiti has appeared next to the subway exit, kindly indicating the supposed direction towards the park. But that’s it, supposed. Because in recent days, herds of lost (and exhausted) tourists have also been sighted on top of the mountain on the other side of this city besieged by pre-election works. Looking for Gaudí in Tibidabo.
