Artificial intelligence already has rules of the game in the EU. After a very long three-day discussion between the European Parliament, the European Commission and the Council of Europe, finally the AI ??Law – or AI Act – has been a reality since last week, becoming a pioneering regulation throughout the world in the regulation of this technology.

According to Brussels, this law “aims to guarantee that AI systems marketed in the European market and used in the EU are safe and respect the fundamental rights and values ??of the EU”, always taking into account that it seeks to “stimulate investment and innovation in AI in Europe.”

The Spanish Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, Carme Artigas, values ??it this way: “It is a historic achievement and an enormous milestone towards the future. “We have managed to maintain an extremely delicate balance: driving innovation and the adoption of artificial intelligence throughout Europe while fully respecting the fundamental rights of our citizens.”

The fines of this new AI Law will range from 35 million euros or 7% of the annual turnover in cases of flagrant violations of these prohibitions, up to 15 million euros or 3% and 7.5 million euros or 1. 5% in minor cases, always having to pay the highest amount. In any case, we will have to wait until at least 2026 to see the AI ??Act in full action.
