The Smedia Group has just announced in a statement the death in Madrid of its president, Enrique Salaberria Folgado (Gipuzkoa, 1961), yesterday afternoon. The deceased was “a leading figure in the world of theater and performing arts management.”
As president of Smedia, he managed seven theaters, such as the Apolo in Barcelona and six more in Madrid: EDP Gran Vía, Alcázar, Fígaro, Pequeno Gran Vía, Lara, Capitol, and the Teatro Real Carlos III in Aranjuez.
An entrepreneur of character, in a recent interview in La Vanguardia Salaberria was eager to reopen theaters such as El Molino, which he considered underused, or the Arnau, which has been closed for many years in Barcelona’s Paral·lel.
“Enrique Salaberria loved the theater. With his vision and passion for the performing arts, he contributed significantly to the growth and continued success of the Smedia Group, consolidating it as a benchmark in the world of theater and entertainment in Spain,” reads the statement.
