The young Valencian admitted to the ICU of a hospital in Cancun (Mexico) is progressing favorably and the doctors are confident that if he continues to respond to the medication, they could consider transferring him to Spain on a medical plane.
As his sister-in-law, Marta Parada, explained to EFE, this weekend they performed a second CT scan that shows improvement in his lungs and he is responding positively to antibiotic treatment.
The man, Adrián Fernández, and his wife, Sofía Parada, were on their honeymoon in a hotel in Cancún, with their 7-year-old son, when he suffered a digestive breakdown in the pool and a subsequent drowning that caused him to suffer a cardiorespiratory arrest.
The rescuers managed to revive him and he was transferred to the nearest hospital, located an hour away from the hotel, where he was admitted in critical condition, and later transferred to another hospital with an induced coma.
Adrián, as explained by his sister-in-law, continues to require artificial respiration and starting this Monday the doctors are going to begin to reduce his sedation to see his response.
Marta has indicated that the doctors have informed the family that, if the evolution is favorable, the option of transferring her, by medical plane, to Spain could be considered.
He has also indicated that the family has begun conversations with the Spanish authorities in Mexico to address this possibility and his possible transfer to the La Ribera hospital, in the municipality of Alzira, where Adrián’s wife works as a nursing assistant in the ICU.
“The hospital has devoted itself to us and would have everything ready to receive Adrián,” said Marta.
Meanwhile, the family continues to raise funds to cover hospital expenses in Cancun – of more than 8,000 euros per day – mostly from family and friends, while the municipality of Alzira, where the couple resides, continues to focus on collecting donations.
Marta Parada has explained that the family is considering requesting a bank loan since they are depleting their savings, and has reported that her nephew is already back in Spain with one of his uncles.
