Wind and drought are not a good combination for the trees, which, weaker than ever, are falling like ninepins when the winds get tight. Weakened by the lack of rain, even the oldest, who have gone through many vicissitudes in the past, seem to be succumbing.

I have captured this series of photographs for La Vanguardia’s Readers’ Photos in La Garrotxa. In the surroundings of Salt de la Coromina, in the Vall d’en Bas, you can see centuries-old oaks knocked down by their roots.

The drought, which has persisted in Catalonia for many months, not only worries us people, but also the plants and trees. In fact, it is scientifically proven that they make warning sounds when they are thirsty for water.

The weakness experienced by trees due to the persistent drought occurs in the different forests of Catalonia, to a greater or lesser extent depending on the amount of rain that has fallen in one territory or another.

In the Barcelona area, for example, it is being noticed especially in natural areas such as the Collserola park.
