The true (and false) medieval legacy meets, with all its charm, in Sant Joan les Fonts, in La Garrotxa. On the one hand, we find interesting examples of civil and religious architecture from medieval times.
This is the case of the church of the Benedictine monastery (12th century), the stronghold of the Juvinyàcastle (12th – 14th centuries) and the medieval bridge (13th century).
But, also, the new church of Sant Joan les Fonts stands out, a majestic building from the end of the 19th century, which, although it may seem so, is obviously not from medieval times.
As can be seen in The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia, it has an air of neo-Gothic art or with a Gothic influence. Built with volcanic stone, this parish church exudes eclecticism.
It is included in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia. It is a rectangular building, with a single nave and side chapels between the buttresses.
The main façade is framed by two hexagonal bell towers, although the one on the right side has never been finished. The works on the bell tower and the rose window were completed more recently at the end of the 20th century.
