The few vestiges that we can see in the Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia of the castle of Toló, in Pallars Jussà, serve as a trace to remember the history of struggles that took place centuries ago in these lands.

This castle has been documented since the 11th century, as a result of clashes with the other fortresses in Pallares: Biscarri, Llimiana and Mur, but these archaeological remains suggest that it possibly has a Visigothic origin.

The castle is located at the origin of the town and former term of Sant Salvador de Toló, to which it belongs, although, since 1970, it is within the municipal term of Gavet de la Conca.

As can be seen in the images, it is located on a hill to the east of the Sierra de la Campaneta, northeastern buttress of Montsec de Rúbies, at the headwaters of the Conques river. It is above and north of the town of Toló.

Actually, the church dedicated to Sant Vicenç de Toló was the original parish church in the castle area. Over time, the town settled in the flatter area, where a new church was erected, dedicated to Sant Salvador de Toló.
