This thread (red) did not begin to be woven yesterday. Sometimes it has been woven under a radiant sun, other times under a (red) moonless night. Sometimes that thread has been democratic, rebellious, republican, other times it has faced fascism. It is the thread of the commoners of Castilla who rebelled to demand that the land return to the common. That of the irmandiños in Galicia when the people rose up against the abuses of the nobility; the one woven by the people of Madrid on May 2; that of the labor movement that organized the strike at La Canadiense paralyzing the Catalan industry. It is the thread that brought the Second Republic to the polls; that of the people of Extremadura who peacefully occupied the farms in 1936; that of the Spaniards who gave their lives for democracy, in Euskadi, Navarra, Andalusia, all of Spain; that of those shot and thrown in the ditches; that of the women who were raped and whose heads were shaved. That of the poets Lorca, Machado, Miguel Hernández, who remind us that a drop of courage is worth more than a cowardly ocean.
This introduction is –write down– the basis of the best speech by Ione Belarra, general secretary of Podemos, to date (IV/15/23). Pedro Sánchez or Yolanda DÃaz could sign it word for word. And it is that the noise should not prevent them from seeing the signal. Belarra is in clear progression as one of the policies that have grown the most this legislature. Much has been said about the vice president as the first woman president, but very little about Ione (who guards the Podemos engine). The purple bases that devised their complementarity knew what they were doing and they were right. It is in sight.
DÃaz and Belarra is a couple that can work. The word tandem here is fully justified. And this past Friday what had to happen happened: Yolanda DÃaz will campaign for Podemos on 28-M. Whoever wanted to direct the “overflow operation” and eliminate the purple ones failed. He failed in his analysis. Fear changed sides. Podemos is the Government and the partner of the PSOE. And although it is still in transition and with uneven messages, in reality, as in judo, its detractors have given them a Roman campaign: life or death on 28-M. They caught that bird in flight. And today Héctor Illueca in the Valencian Community and Alejandra Jacinto in Madrid would have representation. And be careful, it is very likely that Irene de Miguel, a diamond in the rough, will be the next vice president of the Extremaduran Junta in the first progressive coalition together with Guillermo Fernández Vara. That really is the smile of destiny. And an easier campaign to evaluate. Before the plebiscite, if the Colosseum says life, you have already won.
But nothing will be assured until the count. At the moment, there are eight penalties this 28-M: governments to a councilor or a seat. And the final participation will decide everything. In capitals: Seville (the reds throw it, inside), Valencia (blues, inside), Barcelona (reds, inside), Las Palmas (be careful, Carolina Darias, because the ball is in the clouds). And in regional regions: Aragón (reds, in), Extremadura (reds, in), Castilla-La Mancha (without the presence of Podemos, the ball is in the stands) and the Valencian Community (blues, in. Yes, blues, the City Council wins is to win in 16% of the census). The right is thirsty for ballot boxes with a mobilization of generals. The left, no, with loyalty of 65%. The entry or not of Podemos does not influence this megatrend.
In 2016, Podemos was debating between being more Bruce Springsteen and less Coldplay. Maintaining a different language, politicizing pain. For us they always sounded like the Madrid sisters Dover: The devil comes to me. And to that chorus: “I lied, I lied for youâ€, the biggest success in the history of independent music, without social networks, just word of mouth. It was mainstream, just like Podemos.
For Ione, as you can see, which is Podemos, I did not have to quote Pablo Iglesias in the entire article or ask questions about him. The Belarra thing did not begin to be woven yesterday like so many other stories. It is that drop that is worth more for its bravery than a cowardly ocean. Replace Pablo? The smart thing to do was not to replace it. That’s how she did it by being another. Like Sumar with Podemos motor. The smartest thing? It was to include them. Ione’s is like Yolanda’s, the red thread again. Without longing, as JoaquÃn Sabina wrote, what was never experienced because there is never anything worse.
