The influence of the storm ‘Celine’ and the high tide have left more than 300 incidents in Galicia this Saturday. The provinces of A Coruña and Pontevedra have concentrated the greatest number of interventions related to wind and rain, which have caused flooding, fallen trees and forced the cancellation of numerous flights.

Likewise, the storm has forced roads to be cut due to flooding, as has happened on a section of the Marín highway, in Pontevedra. In addition, flooding has also been recorded in private basements and public spaces in various municipalities.

In A Coruña, the greatest damage has occurred in Santiago de Compostela, where flooding was reported on different roads and several drivers were trapped by pockets of water. To prevent further damage, the Compostela city council closed the parks and some sports facilities.

One of the most relevant incidents has been recorded in Narón, where heavy rains caused a four-meter wall to fall. It happened early in the morning in the parish of O Val and the emergency services had to cut off the passage at the point. Meanwhile, in Ponteceso, the Anllóns River has overflowed, which has required the intervention of emergency services.

Furthermore, in Vedra, a train traveling along the Santiago-Ourense section collided with a tree as it passed through this municipality in A Coruña. No one was injured, but the seven passengers had to get off the convoy and be transferred by alternative transportation.

Also at Vigo airport, flights to or from Madrid have been affected by diversions or cancellations.

Aena has reported on its social networks about an adverse weather phenomenon at the Compostela airport, and therefore tells users to check with their airlines about the status of their flight.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) maintains an active adverse meteorological episode at sea that affects the entire coast of the Galician community. This orange level alert brings strong winds (forces 7 and 8) and waves that can reach seven meters high.

Furthermore, according to Meteogalicia, during this day Galicia is under the influence of storm Celine, located southwest of Ireland, which leaves a storm situation on land and sea.

For this Sunday, Meteogalicia predicts a day of instability, with changing weather, but in general below warning levels, except on the coast, where waves will continue to exceed four meters.

Meanwhile, the AEMT activates a yellow warning for Sunday due to heavy or persistent rainfall in the southern half of Galicia. Due to coastal phenomena, the alert will be orange on the coast of A Coruña, Lugo and Pontevedra.
