The Mataró (Maresme) City Council has launched the new App “Seguretat Mataró”, one of the actions provided for in the Local Security Plan 2021-2024. The mayor, David Bote, and the Councilor for Public Safety, Juan Carlos Jerez, presented the new application at a press conference, which is now available for IOS and Android devices.
The App has functionality aimed exclusively at businesses: a virtual button to issue a silent alarm and notify the Local Police if a security-related incident occurs in your establishment. When this alert signal is received in the Coordination Room, the Local Police will immediately activate the resources to respond.
The App provides that those responsible for commercial establishments can make use of this virtual button in two scenarios: in the event of being robbed or in those cases in which no crime has been suffered but a potential problem is detected, such as example, the presence of a person who may be suspicious. In the event that the emergency that occurs in the store is not directly related to public safety, but rather to a medical emergency or a fire, the App will also direct the user to 112.
The development of the “Seguridad Mataró” App has had a cost of 16,933.95 euros, co-financed by European Next Generation funds within the framework of the State Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
Initially the App “Seguridad Mataró” will be made available only to commercial establishments. In a second phase, it is planned to make it available to all citizens with the aim of opening a new communication channel with the Local Police and being able to resolve doubts for the user so that they can access the most appropriate resource depending on whether their need is related to issues Security (filing a complaint, sending information or an incident of interest to the police, arranging a personal meeting with the Local Police…); coexistence (notices related to pets, noise complaints…) or traffic (managements in relation to a vehicle or a traffic complaint, requesting a street closure, reporting the presence of an abandoned vehicle…)
The new application is part of the commitment of the Local Police to use technological tools to improve efficiency and provide a better service to citizens. Other technological resources that are being implemented are single-person cameras to record the most complex actions or the installation of surveillance cameras on public roads with the aim of improving the effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability in the management of citizen security and the traffic.
