The second driver of a bus with schoolchildren and French monitors has died, when he was run over while getting off the bus to give directions to the other driver because they had gotten into a very narrow road with difficult access. Specifically, the accident occurred on the road that surrounds the Valmayor reservoir at kilometer 21 of the M-505, in the Madrid municipality of Valdemorillo.
It is a bus that transported 56 French schoolchildren and 7 adults accompanying the group, who are spending these days with families in the municipality of Villanueva de la Cañada in an exchange program. Fortunately, among the youth and adults there have been no injuries.
The hit-and-run occurred when the bus, which took the wrong turn, turned around and then the accident occurred in an area where it was difficult for a large vehicle to turn around.
68 people had to be evacuated. Hence, the immediate response team of emergency volunteers (Erive) has come into play to manage transport and to be able to remove adolescents, who are around 15 years old, from the scene of the accident. 12 vehicles have come and they have been transferred to a quieter place, specifically to the municipal offices of El Escorial.
In addition, the Madrid host families are being informed that they come for the students as they leave their respective jobs. They have been told what happened and the place where the young people are after the accident.
The civil protections of Moralzarzal, El Escorial and Valdemorillo have participated in the transfer of those affected. The Summa 112 psychologist has also been activated, who has treated the driver of the vehicle because he has had an anxiety crisis.
The Civil Guard and the local police are at the scene and are in charge of the investigations.
