In The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia we can see the effect of the temperature contrast that causes the phenomenon of arctic smoke in the Sau reservoir. The swamp looks steamy like a bowl of soup.

With the contrast in temperatures between the water and the outside, when the sun rises the water smokes and produces that smoke that we see in the images, known as “arctic smoke”.

During the night the temperatures drop, they are cooler than during the day, and the contrast when the sun rises causes this steaming water to form.

The arctic smoke gives a mysterious touch to this landscape in the heart of Les Guilleries, surrounded by cliffs, located in the Ter river basin and which belongs to the municipality of Vilanova de Sau, Osona region.

In these times of drought, the Sau reservoir attracts many eyes, above all, to contemplate and step on a landscape that, under normal conditions, should be flooded. But apart from seeing the ruins of the old town of Sant Romà, phenomena such as arctic smoke give it a special appeal.
