The repair works on the Eix Transversal viaduct cut off to traffic will last 10 months

The Osormort viaduct, on the Eix Transversal (C-25), closed to traffic at the end of December, has a corrosion problem in several stays that hold the surface of the bridge underneath, as explained today by the Territori department.

A structural pathology that forced traffic to be cut before Christmas between Sant Sadurní d’Osormort and Espinelves and vehicles and trucks to be diverted along the road towards Girona. A situation that will continue at least for the next ten months, which is the estimated execution time of the repair works.

The work, which will begin at the beginning of February, will affect the viaduct in the Lleida direction and will cost 5.6 million euros. They are 504 meters long in which the 26 braces of the structure will be replaced with more modern ones and with more protection elements and the structure will be waterproofed.

The Territori department has commissioned an expert report to analyze the causes of the degradation of the infrastructure that was built in the 1990s. The Eix was inaugurated in 1997 and fifteen years later the unfolding works were completed. The operation and maintenance between 2007 and 2022 was managed by the company Cedinsa.

The works also contemplate the installation of an instrumentation system that will offer real-time data on the state of the structure, the repair of the upper reinforcement of the surface of the bridge over which it is passed, the metal struts of each section, the scuppers and waterproofing paint will be applied to the piers and under the bridge.
