I have photographed for La Vanguardia Readers’ Photos the legendary Boeing 747 Jumbo flying over Gavà, in Baix Llobregat, with its imposing contrails in a radiant blue sky.
The Queen of the Skies (The Queen), this is how this device is known that never ceases to surprise us with its line, design and beauty.
It is the aircraft featured in so many movies, the model used for Air Force One. Since 1990, the United States presidential fleet has consisted of two specifically customized Boeing 747-200B aircraft. Long live The Queen!
The 747, known as the Jumbo, is a wide-body transcontinental commercial airliner manufactured by Boeing. It stands out for its large size and, in fact, held the mark of being the largest passenger aircraft for almost four decades.
In the photographs we see how it leaves a trail of trails. Airplanes form a vapor trail after the kerosene combustion process. The gases expelled by the engine come out at a much higher temperature than the outside temperature.
The sharp contrast in temperatures at a height greater than 30,000 feet (-50 degrees in the atmosphere) causes the immediate condensation of the water present in this mixture of substances. This causes us to see these kinds of elongated ice clouds that dissipate after a few seconds.
