In a press release, the Ombudsman of Greuges, Esther Giménez-Salinas, reports that on April 29, the Can Bofí Vell shelter in Badalona (Barcelonès Nord) closed, which until then housed forty-five homeless people who were spending the night in this facility or used its food service. According to published information, some of the people who have been left unattended suffer serious situations of fragility and special lack of protection, and have a significantly deteriorated state of health.

The union, concerned about the situation, has opened an ex officio action and has requested information from the City Council about the alternatives and resources that have been offered to the affected people with the aim of preventing them from being forced to return to the streets.

The trustee defends that the solutions to this problem must be addressed through dialogue between all actors and that the involvement of everyone is necessary to work on social inclusion. The closure of the shelter has occurred given the impossibility of the cooperative that managed it (Suara) to continue assuming its monthly expenses, after in 2021 the City Council stopped paying for this service.
