The Mossos d’Esquadra have arrested nine people for growing marijuana in a farmhouse in Bisbal d’Empordà. In the operation, the agents seized a total of 54.5 kilos of marijuana buds and found more than 2,000 pots with plant remains, as well as fans, several air conditioning units, humidifiers and two centrifuges.

The group, made up of eight men and a woman between 20 and 60 years old, used all the rooms of the farmhouse, both the main building and the underground one and the adjacent warehouse, for this illicit activity. Two of those arrested lived on the farm.

In the part that was used as a home, the agents found two firearms and an electric defense. In another room, they found the installation that allowed the irrigation of the plants, with a 1,000-liter water tank and two purifiers.

The Mossos d’Esquadra verified how the group fraudulently connected to the electrical grid. The economic value of the defrauded energy would be equivalent to more than 23,200 euros.

The agents arrested seven people at the farmhouse and two other men at another point in the municipality. They are held responsible for crimes against public health, electricity fraud and illicit possession of weapons.

Four of the detainees, who had a history of similar events, gave statements this Wednesday before the investigating judge on duty in La Bisbal. The other arrestees were released from police custody waiting to appear before the judge when required.
