The Milky Way is a spiral galaxy where the solar system and Earth meet. The name comes from Latin and Roman mythology. It means “milk path”.

According to Greek mythology it is milk spilled from the breast of the Goddess Hera. In this image in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we see how the Milky Way comes out of the Roc Llarg abyss in Sant Bartomeu del Grau (Osona), an abyss that is illuminated by light pollution from Plana de Vic.

The geographical situation of Sant Bartomeu del Grau, with a considerable altitude in the hills that surround the town (around 900 metres), allows splendid views of the Plana de Vic to be seen from this position.

From Roc Llarg you can also enjoy a privileged panorama of the surrounding mountains (Montseny, Gilleries, Collsacabra and Puigsacalm).

You can even see a good part of the eastern Pyrenees (Canigó, Puigmal, Pedraforca and Cadí), as well as Montserrat.
