The mayor of Zuera and president of the Aragonese Federation of Municipalities, Counties and Provinces (FAMCP), Luis Zubieta, died this Saturday when he was run over while riding a bicycle on the N-330, in the municipality of Gurrea de Gállego, in Huesca province.
The event took place around 11:25 a.m. this Saturday, at kilometer point 541,500 of the N-330, as reported by the Civil Guard.
Luis Zubieta, 57, had been re-elected mayor of the Zaragoza municipality last June by the Socialist Party.
The Huesca Civil Guard team of reports and the commander of the Zuera Post are at the scene of the accident and the details of the event are still being investigated.
The acting president of the regional government and general secretary of the PSOE in Aragon, Javier Lambán, has referred to Luis Zubieta with the following words: “There was no better person, more loyal man and more valuable friend.”
“Luis Zubieta has just died. Terrible news. I feel desolation and pain,” Lambán said through a message on his profile on the social network Twitter. “I will do it personally, but a big hug to his family. I cry with them. I am indignant with them. May the earth be light to you, friend”, he has concluded.
