The Mataró hospital (Maresme) is the second center that has obtained the highest score in the surveys on pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum care carried out by the Department of Health among all Catalan hospitals. The overall satisfaction level is 8.45 out of 10, half a point above the Catalan average and only surpassed by Hospital del Mar, with 8.73.

The Maresma center has been the best rated in Catalonia in terms of monitoring and control of pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. Families highlight the treatment of doctors, nurses and midwives, the centre’s facilities, help with pain during childbirth and postpartum, and monitoring of the baby during the hospital stay as areas rated excellent. They also obtain a grade above nine aspects such as feeling in good hands during pregnancy, childbirth and admission, being able to be accompanied throughout the process and respect for privacy. All of this means that the Mataró Hospital is considered one of the best birth centers in Catalonia and that 86.7% of the people surveyed state that they would choose it again to have their baby, while the average loyalty percentage of the entire Catalonia is 78%.

Montse Pujol, head of nursing in the maternal and child area of ??the Mataró Hospital, states that “we are very satisfied with these results, the entire team of professionals has done an excellent job and this is reflected in the opinion of the families who choose our center. to have her baby. We should all congratulate each other.” Furthermore, she adds that “our objective is to offer support and assistance during pregnancy, labor and delivery that is safe, quality, humanized and respectful of both the physiology of the process and the decisions and preferences of each family. That is why it is very important to establish a relationship of proximity and trust, in which the woman feels listened to, informed and involved at all times.”

During 2023, around 900 births were attended to at the Mataró Hospital, with an instrumentalization rate (that is, the use of instruments such as vacuum, forceps or spatulas) of 15%, a fairly low percentage. As for cesarean sections, they were performed in 23% of births, a figure in line with the Catalan average.

In addition, both in vaginal births and in cesarean sections, the presence of a companion is offered at all times and early “skin-to-skin” contact, through which the mother holds the baby in her arms as soon as it is born and remains with her. since then. In fact, the Ministry of Health already awarded the “immediate care to the healthy newborn” protocol of the Mataró Hospital in 2014.

The data are extracted from the satisfaction survey that CatSalut carries out periodically to users of public health services (PLAENSA). In this case, more than 4,000 people who had a son or daughter during 2022 were asked.
